RE: Semenuk/Samanuk--Bennedict/Minot, ND
Searching out lost relatives from the Minot, Bennedict area.
My Great Great Grandfather John or Samuel sp?(Samunak/Saminek/Samanek/ other spellings) Russian. I do know that two of his other daughters took him to California, perhaps thats where he died at?
He had a thousand acres in that area. Don't know if his wife was here or in Odessa, Russia.
His daughter Carrie married a Rittle and had abt. 7 or 8 children. Story from my grandmother Anne Stephens/AKA Rittle her mothers first husband died by the hand of a "Hired Hand". She remarried to John Stephens also searching this line and had two more children Dorothy and Anne. Anne was bn on 7/19/1919 her father died in Minot or Bennedict hospital 2 days later from cancer. Her mother had all the children go by the name of Rittle since most of her children were from her first husband. So Dorothy and Anne sometimes had documents in the name of Rittle and later on back to Stephens.
After reseaching with some relatives I was told that Carries father had been a big Produce dealer in Odessa, Russia and he paid for at least 4 other families to come with him to America before the turn of the century. They paid him back passage when they got on their feet in America. Some of Carrie's sisters I was told went back to Russia and were never heard of again. Supposedly two of his daughters took him to California and thats were I at right now. Some of my grandmothers sisters were Adaline married Nick Shuk, (Arabelle md Boris & Marge both married Kutnick brothers) I'll have to search for the rest of them.
Chewakin was one of Carries sister husband.
Any help would be much appreciated!
