RE: Semenuk/Samanuk--Bennedict/Minot, ND
Hello
I'm inquiring if anyone has any information on Carrie Senenuk and John Stephens Family History.Carrie was born in Russia, her father had a produce dealership in Odessa, Russia. He sold everything and brought 4 other families with him to the United States. He got out just before the Czar took over is as the story goes. These other familys paid their passage back to him once they got established and working. My grandmother use to tell me some of the Russian words her grandfather use to say to her when she was a little girl.
John Samuel Stephens was bn abt. 1823 in Meigs Co., OH, he supposedly married a Helen C. Clark on June 16, 1862.
Helen C. Clark was bn abt. 1844 in Burlington, VT. Have no other information on Helen Clark either.
Their children were as follows:
Dates figured from census in Viroqua, WI
Esther Stephens bn 1863
Cordelia Stephens bn 1865
Jane Stephens bn 1869
John Samuel Stephens bn 3/31/1871, md Carrie Senenuk/Samunuks on 1/18/1918 in Bennedict, ND.
They had two children:
Dorothy and Anne Stephens.
Annie was bn on 7/19/1919, her father John Samuel Stephens died two days later in the Minot hospital, Minot North Dakota (Carrie's father had a thousand acres in the Bennedict area, his name was John. Were told that the Bennedict cemetary where John Samuel Stephens is buried can be seen from the old family farm. The Senenuk/Samunuks were from Odessa, Russia) where she was born just two days prior. Have a picture of him that was my grandmothers.
Annie's mother had several children prior to marrying John. Her first husband had been killed by their hired hand. So when John died she went back by her previous married name since most of the children were all Rittle's except Dorothy and Annie they were Stephens. So, they had AKA of Rittle.
Thanks,
Ter
