SETHS of Northern India
Hi, I am reposting my interests as I have more information.
I am researching a line of Armenian SETHS from Northern India.
1.William Osmond SETH bn. 1854, Agra, died 1903, Lucknow, Bengal.
2.Gregory John SETH, bn. abt. 1820, died 1891 in Allahabad.
3.Johannas SETH.A merchant.Married to Anna, appears to have relocated from Surat/Bombay to Allahabad in the 1840s, possibly earlier.Had at least four children - Gregory John (See above) married to Ellen DOLBY in Allahabad, 1848, Cecilia, married to William DOLBY in Allahabad, 1843, Phillip John, and Mary Ann, married to Arakiel Chatters in Secrole, 1840.
A Johannes Seth appears in M.J. Seth's book, Armenians in India, and if I am reading things right, is a great uncle of M.J.I believe this Johannes to be the father of the Johannes cited in #3.Also, there are connections with New Julfa as this family traded between New Julfa and Malaysia.
I am stuck, so hopefully someone out there has bells ringing...
