Portrait of Captain James Sever, 1761-1845, Portsmouth, N.H.
The online catalog of the Mid-Atlantic Auctions house auction of April 7, 2012, displays a miniature portrait of Captain James Sever, 1761-1845, of Portsmouth, N.H.
Captain Sever was a Revolutionary naval officer. He christened the ship USS CONSTITUTION with a bottle of Madeira & he was captain of the naval frigate USS CONGRESS from 1800-1801.
On the date of my writing this message, a photo of this portrait is still available online at:

but it may be taken offline soon. In the event it is taken offline, I have downloaded it and will be happy to send a copy freely by email to Sever family researchers. Someone in the family ought to have it, which is why I’m keeping a copy of it and posting about it. It would be a very great shame and injustice were it to be missed by the Sever family.

Please email me directly rather than respond to me on this site as I may not see that response.
If it were a portrait of a 19th century Pease gentleman in my line, I’d certainly hope someone would do the same for me. Call it a simple, but appropriate, genealogical good deed.
