Hi Joan.It would be great if you can help me out.Unfortunately, I don't know very much about Mary Ann Shadwell and I don't have anything more specific on birth information than "born in England."Another Shadwell/Gebhart researcher gave me the following information.
Mary Ann Shadwell was born 16 Apr 1817 in England. She came to the U.S. in 1819 from England with her parents and settled at Newcomerstown, Maryland where she met and married George Gebhart on 10 Oct 1839.In 1845, the family moved to Belmont County, Ohio. Then 10 Aug 1849 they moved to Graysville, Monroe County, Ohio.In Oct 1860 they moved to a farm .5 mile south of Graysville, then back to Graysville 27 Mar 1863.At some point, Mary acquired a farm on Pidgeon Roost, Benton Township, Monroe County, Ohio where her daughter Mary Louisa and her husband, Enoch Austin Hall lived.
Mary died on 20 June 1899 due to a stroke and is buried at M. P. (Mount Pleasant?) Church cemetery at Graysville, Monroe County, Ohio.
Per a Family Bible, George Washington Gebhart and Mary Ann Shadwell's children are:
Sarah Ann (b. 30 Jul 1840); John William (b. 24 Mar 1842); Thomas Reuben (b. 19 Mar 1844); Mary Louisa (b. 28 Jun 1846); Eliza Jane (my great-grandmother)(b. 20 Sep 1848); Maria Luvenia (b. 19 Jan 1851); Samuel P. (b. 27 Mar 1853); Rebecca Ann (b. 25 Jul 1855); Amelia Lucretia Elizabeth (b. 25 Oct 1857) and George Washington Gebhart, Jr. (b. and d. 04 Apr 1860).
Hope this helps in pinning down whether your Mary Ann Shadwell is my Mary Ann Shadwell. Thanks again.
