Most Famous Shapter
No doubt any who have searched the surname online have repeatedly located the name of Dr. Thomas Shapter. Apparently he did a great deal to record and combat TWO cholera epidemics in Exeter in the early 1800's. In the current context in Haiti and other areas of the world, the viciousness of such epidemics still prevails, current medicine notwithstanding! How did they manage to fight this two hundred years ago???
Local (NL/CA) history identifies a John and Thomas here in early 1700's and a John from Devon in mid 1800's. However no connection to this great historic figure appears obvious to my line (??).
I would be curious to hear from his descendants and/or cousins?
