Re: James William Sharbutt, son of Hill & Molly
Reference your E-Mail, I do not believe this is the same James William Sharbutt. I think there may be several for that name....Information I have came from the United Methodist Archives in Ft. Worth, Tx. and also from the DeLeon, Tx.(Comanche Co.) Obituary of J.W. and his wife.My husband was from DeLeon and his folks used to have a Laundry and did the Laundry for the United Methodist Church and knew him as the Minister there (years ago).James William Sharbutt was born January 17, 1884 in Alabama. His parents were Hill Sharbutt and Molly Sharbutt. He married Maudie Lee Matlock at Mt. Enterprise,Tx. on July 19, l905.(One write up says they were married in Beaumont, Tx.) He was a Student at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Tx. He ran a cleaning and pressing shop while a student. He was minister in many places in Texas but retired in De Leon, Tx and both were buried in DeLeon City Cemetery.
They had one daughter, Volva Mae Sharbutt Clinger King buried in El Paso, Tx.One son, Delbert Eugene Sharbutt of New York City, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. One brother, John Sharbutt of Luders, Tx. and one son Lovic James Sharbutt who passed away in infancy...
I can remember when I was a kid that my dad used to tell us to be quite(radio on) to listen to Del Sharbutt tell the news and that it was our Aunt Volva's brother....I think he was a War Correspondent or something...anyway he was reporting news about the war...James William Sharbutt died in De Leon, Tx. Hospital on March 24, l963. In my genealogy research, I find that alot of women with name of Mary are called "Molly".My research thru all of this is my genealogy of the "Clinger Family" and Volva's daughter and grandchildren...This obituary information was from the Archives of the United Methodist Church...Ft. Worth, Tx.
I made a copy of your correspondence listed under COOSAS dated May 23, 1999 as "Sharbutt and Miller Family" thinking that someone did not know about this son, brother of John H. Sharbutt...because everything seems to indicate the families were the same....My computer is going to the repair shop soon for a couple of weeks so I may not be able to correspond for awhile....but maybe I have given you enough information to do more research....Looking in the the Anywho people finder, I found a J.Sharbutt in New York, N.Y. and wondered if he was a relative of Delbert's???Anyway, keep in touch and hope this helps....Geraldine
