Re: Sharp DNA
Scott, it would seem unlikely that William Fritz Sharp, born in Bourbon County, KY, in 1796, would have had a father also born in Kentucky. This would have required the father to have been born in Kentucky about 1760-1770. It is my impression that, except for the Transylvania Colony, the settlement of Kentucky took place after the Revolution. Perhaps Joseph Sharp was born in Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania or Virginia. I believe that there were two Josephs in Virginia about that time. One lived in Augusta County and the other lived in Cumberland County. The Joseph in Cumberland County died about 1798. About 1820, his widow and several of his children moved to Bourbon County, KY. Her name was Elizabeth and her will, recorded in Bourbon County, about 1834, mentioned the following children: James, Stephen, John, Vincent and Cynthia. No William was mentioned. It might be helpful for you to participate in the Sharp/Sharpe DNA study. There are several of us of the Sharp line descended from brothers of Joseph of Cumberland County, VA, who have participated and have DNA patterns that match very closely. It would be interesting to see where you fit in the DNA study. You can access the DNA study by going to the website, which you can find in The Sharp Family Genealogy Forum.
