My g grandmother was Naomi Anna Texana Sharpe Reece. Her headstone gives her name as Texana Sharpe (b: 28 April 1876; d: 23 April 1919.I have been unable to locate a death certificate for her with the only info I have is that she died "near Blairsville".Her grave is in Pine Log Cemetery, Clay County, GA next to her husband Caswell Gaston Reece. She was his first wife and mother to 10-11 children.
I have been searching for more information on where she came from and would love to find a photo of her.Rumor has it she was born out of wedlock then the daughter left her with her grandparents. Family stories also say she died in childbirth or from the Flu Epidemic if 1918-19 - both of which are possible and may be connected.
I did locate a family living in Haywood County, NC in the 1880 Census pages. It lists Dave Sharpe, his wife Annie(Sellers) and their two youngest children(William E and Sarah); along with a grand daughter "Texan".I am fairly certain I have the right family.
If so, then they also had two older daughters, one of whom may be Texana's mother. They were Luiza C./Louisa C. AND Mary J. I have found some conflicting information regarding when these two were born...but have been looking at a possible connection to the Louisa Catherine Sharpe who married James William Cogburn and the Mary J Sharpe who married WJ Paxton.
I have now hit one of those familiar Brick Walls. Can anyone shed any light on the 'Sharpe' side of this story?Perhaps you have a family story that tells of a girl child that went to live with her grandparents as a result of some awkward situation.
Any help you can provide, even if it is to confirm I have the right Sharpe family would be most appreciated.Norma (email@example.com)
