Re: William K. Sheid 1840 Tn?>AL
Texas history states:
SHIED, MANSON (1811-1836). Manson Shied, Alamo defender, was born in Georgia in 1811. He was subsequently a resident of Brazoria, Texas, and made his living as a carpenter. He took part in the siege of Bexarqv and later served in the Alamo garrison as a member of Capt. William R. Carey'sqv artillery company. Shied died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836.
I do not know where they got that spelling, as the Texas census has him as SHEID.
If I had to guess, the Alamo Sheid is a cousin to your Sheid.
We are attempting to proove that he and others were from Georgia. I have found several mistakes in the existing records of other soldiers.
Last week, I spent some time at the Georgia Archives and found nothing on Sheid.
Thanks, for your time and please let me know if you find any information.
