I went to the Rankin county courthouse checking for marriage licenses. The first two books are so old, you can only view the index.I found in the index, W.P. Sheppard, married C.A. Sheppard, 5/7/1868.They have put on computer the first two books and will print out info.I had it printed and it came out W.P. Sheppard and E.A. Sheppard, but it has to be C.A.In 1870 Rankin County Fannin P.O. census there is a William Sheppard age 35 and Caroline age 28 family #470, family 471 is my husband's ggrandfather, John Sheppard 30 and Charity 25.(maiden name Shepherd), married 4/30/1868.Family 469 is mary Shepard age 52 hoh, Caroline age 32 (I think is Josiah's wife or widow) Sarah, 30, Elizabeth 28, Phoebe 21, John 19, Nancy 16, Jimmie 14, Richard 12.In 1860 Rankin county, Brandon census lists M.H. Shepherd 45, E.(J.orF.) 41, J.(F.orN. could be Josiah), age 24, Sarah 22, Elizabeth 20, Caroline 18, Charity 15, William 13, John 11, (G. or F) A. 7 (female) Nancy 6, Martin 4. (Martin & Jimmie in 1870 is James Martin)
My theory is Charity and C.A. (Caroline) are sisters (maiden name Shepherd) who married Sheppards, possibly brothers, I have not found my John Cosper Sheppard any farther back than 1868 marriage license. Just a theory.Let me know if you find this useful or if you have anything that would assist me.Jo Dunn Sheppard
