Stanley Shimkus
SPRINGFIELD - Stanley Shimkus, 85, of Springfield, passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at his home.
Stanley was born May 19, 1926 in Springfield, the son of Peter and Ursula Vadakus Shimkus. He married Mildred Evelyn Freligh on September 4, 1948 in Springfield.
Stanley graduated from Lanphier High School and proudly served his country during WWII in the Marine Corps. He owned and operated Stanley Supply and Stanley's Plumbing and Heating for 26 years until he retired. Stanley previously worked for Sangamo Electric, a coal mine and Borg-Warner in Decatur. He was a member of the VFW Post #10302 and enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stanley G. Shimkus; four brothers, Felix, Arthur, Peter and Walter Shimkus; and a sister, Ann Buguveski.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Springfield; his children, Frank (wife, Sharon) Shimkus, Linda Suits, Diana Cummins and Carl (companion, Dianna Rodgers) Shimkus, all of Springfield, IL, Sandra Kramer and Sharon Lacanski, both of Springfield, MO; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2011 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors. Family and friends are welcome to gather at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. for procession.
