Dear Jane - on receipt of message 61, I also went to Free BMD and found Mary Jane's surname of Curry. When James died probate was granted to Henry Shiner(presumably his son) and Richard MAY (yeoman). Does this name mean anything to you?James left £694-4-11d.When his wife Mary Jane died in 1934 she left £270-16-0d.
You may already know that James had a brother William Henry (auctioneer), and two sisters Matilda Sarah and Emily Palmer.
Their father was Henry Shiner(auctioneer) born Misterton about 1832 who married Emily PALMER.
Henry's father was another Henry (farmer). At the moment that is the limit of my information going back in time.
Coming back to James and Mary Jane I think they may have had more children - May b Dec 1888 , Albert b Mar 1897 , Oliver b Jun 1898 , Reginald b Sep 1899 all in Axbridge and Harold b Jun 1904 in Long Ashton. Some of these died at a young age.
Did William Albert & Ellen Elizabeth manage a child before he was killed?
I still can't fathom out your connection with the Shiners. What is the connection with the Goulds?Only curious!
I intend to trace the Shiners back further to try and connect them with Dorset Shiners from whence I came.
Kind regards
Colin
