Became a rancher, merchant, financier, and horse breeder.He was one of the founders of the Bank of Stockton, founder of the Stockton Gravel Company and head of the Stockton Combined Harvest Agriculture Works.
Lodowich U. Shippee was buried in Rural Cemetery, Stockton, California.
