I am a memeber of the W Canadian Shirtliff clan. although our family spells its name with an e the origianl is without. Most if not all of the Shirtliff's I have encountered in W Can were from an immigration of three brothers to W. Canada c. 1880. As the story the tree brothers were the sons of a farm labourer from Doncaster England and ended up scattered across the great plains. One moved to Manitoba (near Starbuck), one to Saskatchewan (the area around where there is now Lake Definbacker) and one moved to Montana (There are some in Great Falls but I am not sure if this is the original site). I don't have a copy of my Shirtlitff family history (it was assembled for the centenial of the original family farm in Starbuck) with me but there are still copies available. Let me know if you need more specific info.
