Beatrice Edna Shoop Flanary, 84, went to be with her
Heavenly Father peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2011, at
She was born in Arno, VA, on July 26, 1926. She was a very
loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grand-
mother and great-great grandmother. She was a devoted
member of the Baptist faith and a devoted homemaker all of
her life for her entire family.
She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted
husband of 61 years, Lewis 'Ed' Flanary; a granddaughter,
Tammy K. Chandler; her parents, Charles and Beatrice
Willie Mae (Hodges) Shoop; three brothers, Ralph Shoop,
Robert Shoop, and Ted Shoop; and four sisters, Syble Laws,
Bessie Shoop, Ida Lawson and Ruth Caudill.
She is survived by her son, Robert E. Flanary and wife
Emily, of Sunnyvale, CA; two daughters, Linda S. Noel, of
Big Stone Gap, VA, and Treina K. Caswell and husband Jim,
of Rogersville, TN; several grandchildren, Dana Cabrera,
Laura Lee Dee, Patrick Chandler, Pam Houser, Nathan Noel,
and Kim Hunter; several great grandchildren, Amanda,
Brittiny, Kyle, Tawni, Paige, Alex, Taylor, Christopher,
Alyssa, Zachery, and Jason; one great-great granddaughter,
Karyssa; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.,
on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Holding Funeral Home,
17 E. 3rd St., N., in Big Stone Gap, VA.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m., on
Wednesday, in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Wayne
Entombment services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday,
March, 24, 2011, at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens
Mausoleum. The family and friends will meet at the funeral
home by 10:20 a.m., on Thursday, to go in procession to
