correction on William Edward Short
I was looking back over an old post that I had made in 2002 on William Edward Short, and the way I wrote it, it makes it look like Short died in Texas. He died in Alabama from a team of runaway horses.
He married Martha Jane Melton, I have been told. They had several children, including Mary Frances, Pathenia, Joseph Sydney Johnston Short, my great grandmother Amanda Virginia Zipporah Short, who married Thomas Adam Prater, Nancy Lenora, Egripia, and David Short.
His first wife died, and Wm Edward Short married her sister, my great great grandmother. They are on the Dade County GA census in 1880, when he was 50 and Martha Jane was 41. He moved from Alabama to Georgia, then back to Alabama, where he was killed in the accident with the team of horse. For some unknown reason, his wife and my great grandmother, and some others moved to Johnson County Texas, but many of the Shorts stayed in Alabama, including Joseph Sydney Johnston Short.
My great grandmother saw my great grandfather Thomas Adam Prater and remarked to someone, "That's a man I'm going to get." They married in 1903 in Alvaredo Texas.
They were the only two great grandparents that I knew, and I wish that I had asked them more about family history.
