Re: Israel & William Shreve in 1778
If you're referring to Israel Shreve of Burlington County, NJ, he was a colonel in the New Jersey Line (I think--will have to check). He served in the Revolutionary Army, although he was a Quaker, and left NJ for Fayette County, PA, after the war, his home having been burned by the British. His journal about the journey is included in Luther P. Allen's "The Genealogy and History of the Shreve Family from 1641," available through Tuttle Antiquarian Books. (They print it on request from their copy--it's pricey, something over $100).
