Albert Shurtliff, N.W.Mounted Police
Julia WOOD was the sister of George Isaac WOOD (b. 1850, Estrie, Quebec, Canada) Their parents were said to have been Loyalists, dying when George was still fairly young.
Julia married Albert SHURTLIFF. Julia & Albert had a daughter, Lillian, who was later nicknamed Tannis. She was said to have beeen born in the Eastern United States on 26 Jul 1880.
Major Albert SHURTLIFF joined the North West Mounted Police as a Sub-Inspector in 1873. He died of consumption, and in 1885 Julia and her daughter were living on a ranch near Maple Creek, NWT.
By 1900 Julia Wood SHURTLIFF had remarried, to Daniel Webster MARSH, a business man in Calgary. D.W. MARSH later sold his business to George I. WOOD & Fred GREEN, of Manistee, Michigan.
Tannis Shurtliff MARSH, in 1908, married Harry ALLISON, a Calgary lawyer, who was from a prominent Sackville, New Brunswick family that had established a university there - Mount Allison?
