Siegel from Poland/Russia, father was Rabbi
I seem to be hitting a brick wall as I help my grandmother trace our roots back to Poland/Russia.I want to go back further than my ggg grandfather, Philip Siegel. Philip was born in Poland/Russia in July 1882.As far as we know, Philip and an older brother came to the United States about 1896 to avoid required military service in Poland. Philip was about 14 and his older brother was probably about 16.They may have entered through Canada or possibly Philadelphia.I believe that Philip stayed in Canada a couple of years before coming to the states.Once here, I have no idea where the brother went to.Philip became a naturalized citizen 17 Jan 1919 in Colorado Springs, CO. He was a shoemaker by trade.
Their father was a Polish Rabbi. Rabbi's wife was
killed when a cart ran over her, and they had 2 sons and a daughter. We have absolutely no idea where he was from. I just remember hearing that it was about 75 miles south or southwest of Warsaw.
Does anyone know of anything that could possibly help me?Perhaps a descendent of the brother's side is doing genealogy research and can tell a similar story.
