Deborah Sellick or Selleck, Darien, CT> Salisbury, CT?> PoundRidge, NY
During the 1700's and 1800's consistent spelling was not important. Many people were illiterate and clerks spelled names the way they sounded.Selleck was sometimes spelled as Silleck or Sellick. There were three major Selleck (AKA Silleck or Sellick) families that migrated to America. Some information and links can be found at: http://home.att.net/~jg245/selleck1.htmhttp://home.att.net/~jg245/selleck1.htm
I have posted data at ttp://home.att.net/~jg245/selleck.htm
about the particular Selleck Family I am interested in for
a possible conection to my ancestor Deborah Sellick of
PoundRidge, Westchedter Co. NY.
The story of my search for Deborah, "daughter of Nathan5 Sellick (David4, Nathaniel/Nathan3, John2, David1 Selleck), and Sarah5 Sellick (Nathaniel4, Jonathan3, Jonathan2, David1 Selleck), of Darien, CT, who were members of the Congretional Church at that place when it was organized" can be found at http://home.att.net/~susgod/charlotte/http://home.att.net/~susgod/charlotte/.
I found the church records for Nathaniel and Sarah Sellick,
the first couple married at the Darien Congregational Church. I found records of the Baptisms of their children. There was no record of a daughter named Deborah.
Nathan's brother Ezra Sellick (b: 1731-32 d: BEF 1765) and his second wife Mary Whiting were also members of the Congregational Church at Darien, CT. I found a 10/07/1768 baptism record for their daughter Deborah Sellick. But, I could find no other data on this woman.
The ancestry of Deborah Sellick or Selleck remains my brick wall.
