Martin Simonsen of Farmington, Dakota County, MN
I am currently doing research on the Simonsen side of my family tree, my great grandfather Ole Christian Simonsen and his brother Martin, were born in Understed, Hjorring, Denmark, Martin on July 1, 1861, and Ole on August 1, 1863. They were the sons of Mads Christian Simonsen and his wife Christine Marie Larsen (or Larsdatter).
According to information that I have found Ole and Martin had 4 brothers and 2 sisters, who stayed in Denmark. I found a naturalization document for Martin Simonsen from Rice County, Minnesota in which it states that he arrived in the United States from Denmark on August 26, 1885.
When they first arrived in the United States, Martin and Ole made there way to St. Paul, Minnesota where they lived on the 2-300 blocks of King Street in West St. Paul for a time. Martin was a tailor by trade.
Ole Married Karen Sorensen on December 1, 1889 and Martin married Elizabeth Casper on May 8, 1891, both marriages taking place in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Ole and his wife Karen began a family and about 1899 moved from St. Paul to a farm that they bought about 4 miles S.E. of Kimball, Minnesota.
Martin and Elizabeth moved to the town of Farmington, Dakota County, Minnesota where Martin farmed and also opened a Tailor shop in the town of Farmington.
