Re: Samuel Singer b1782 PA
I have been looking into the Singer families of Derry Township Dauphin Co Pa. A Simon Zenger came over on the Robert and Alice 1743. A Simon Senger got a land grant in Lancaster Co. (now Dauphin) for 50 acres warranted on Feb. 14, 1750 (Source Footnote- Pennsylvania Archives).
Simon Singer is on tax lists for Derry Pa. in 1756 and 1758. I believe all this to be the same man. Simon Singer in Derry died- will was proved in 1763- he left a wife Elizabeth (that married Henry Eby) they had children:John was the oldest, Simon, Barbara,Elizabeth, Jacob, Catherine, Henry, Anna, and Mary.
His will states that he was from Donegal - which is now in Lancaster -right on the border with Dauphin Co.- Derry township area.
Henry Eby married Simon's widow and moved the family to Carslisle , Cumberland Co. Pa by 1777 where Henry was listed in the Militia there for theRevolution. It appears Simon's son Simon Jr. was still farming land owned by a Margaret Moor according to the Direct Tax of 1798 for Dauphin Co.
I do not believe this family to be tied to Casper Singer family- unless they are related back in Germany or Switzerland. Casper SInger came over and was a land owner in Philadelphia Co. in the 1730's. He died and his son Casper Jr. moved to Lancaster city- he then moved to Philadelphia by the 1790 census- and was a tanner.
