I believe that the Skeels who went to Ohio from Maryland originated from one William Skeele, a felon transported from London on the ship Thornton, Capt. Christopher Reed, in May 1767, arriving at Elk Ridge Landing, Maryland in July 1767.See the book The King's Passengers to Maryland and Virginia by Peter Wilson Coldham, pages 196 & 197.See the introduction, pages i thru xii, for good info on the times involved.William apparently was sent to Maryland from the Old Bailey Jurisdiction which covered London and Middlesex county.I also have a copy of a book about the Skeels families in Noble County, Indiana written at the close of the 1800's as I recall. As I recall it was written as a family reunion project. The book itself was printed on a poor grade of paper and is foxed but the photos are as good as new.I have retyped the pages in my word processor but have not completed the indexing yet.
