I am also looking for more info. on this same family. My great grandmother was Jippie Ann Skipper b.March 11, 1886 and d. Nov. 18, 1967. Her father was James Henry Skipper, mother was Elizabeth Ashley. I think he may have had about 10 children with his first wife and 3-4 with second. Don't have any birth or death dates for either wife. First wife was Elizabeth Jane Samples and died probably after 1875. James remarried about 1879. My great aunt, my grandmothers sister, before she died wrote some stories of her life and many include her aunts, uncles, and cousins on the Skipper side. It is very interesting. List of children I have may not be correct, John William b.12/1854 d.11/10/1911 m. Emiline J. Pinion, Mary J. b.1858, Martha b. 1861, Eliza E. b.1863, Laura Elizabeth b. 2/27/1865 d. 10/25/1942 m. John Edward Pinion (brother to Emiline), James H. b.1868, Catherine(who may have been called Kate) b.1872 may have married Ben Golden and maybe a Cooper, Thomas Jefferson b. 8/31/1875 d. 1947? m. Effie Arene Cannon, Children of James Skipper and second wife were:Charles b. 10/1882, Samuel?, Jippie Ann. Jippie Ann was born in a two story building on Market St. in Chattanooga, TN during the flood of March 1886. Her family stayed in tents on Cameron Hill until the water went down. I was told that is how she got her name. They first started calling her Gypsy because they were having to live like Gypsys but then was changed to Jippie. My father and uncle don't remember the story very well, getting on up in years. But, I have heard it many times throughout the years and for some reason I keep thinking that someone said that her mother had died at this time also. Glad to help you out with any other info. I have on the Skippers.
