thank you so much. What I am guessing is that Edward W. Skipper who was born in 1853 and married in 1872 was the father of the Edward W. Skipper who was born in 1877 or 1882. My grandmother's father was Edward Wilson Skipper and she had a brother also who was Edward W. Skipper. Her brother came to the US (Cleveland,OH) in 1910. The mother was Sarah Ann Brown (a family member thinks it is Adams). Sarah and Edward divorced and Sarah later remarried John Charles Coltman. We have the social security application that my grandmother filled out and it is almost impossible to read the line where she put her mother's maiden name. It looks more like Adams than Brown, however, she made several mistakes on the form --her birth year and her race(?). so I amconvinced that she may have made other mistakes. The idea of getting one of the children's birth certificates is a great idea. thanks again.
