Hello there were many Slattery's in this area. I have the pension papers and death certificate of my 2d Great Grand Uncle Timothy Slattery who was the Commander(Cpt) of I co 55th IL Infantry at the battle of Shiloh. He was wounded in the leg and resigned from the unit in 1863 due to his helth. He signed up from Morris, IL. I have a copy of his resignation, military pension papers and the report of his wounds. He died in Chicago in 1919. He was married to Margaret Weldon. I talked with his Great Grandson about a month ago. His brother Edward T. Slattery was his Ist SGT in I Company 55th(killed at Shiloh) and his cousin Patrick was also there.oth signed up from Morris IL. I have also found a second Timothy Slattery in I Company 55th IL infantry who was a private. He is listed from Ottawa, IL. Could this be James Timothy? I went back and checked the IL archive and the Il Adjutant general muster listing and didn't find a James Timothy in the record for the 55th Illinois Infantry. Could be the Private Timothy Slattery I found. I am researching him right now. My research has also shown an older Timothy who was a shoemaker in Ottawa, IL. There is an 1893 obituary for a T. Slattery in the Grundy county newspaper I am checking out. I don't really know who this second Timothy is. I live in this area so have access to many of the records and old newspapers on microform. Do you know what company James Timothy Slattery was in? Have you tried to otain pension papers on this James Slattery? They are invaluable. There was also a Daniel Slattery in Ottawa. He was a 2LT and moved west after the war. As I said there was a large group of Slatterys here. I really don't know if they are all related but a great portion of them are cousins. I will see if any of the older Slatterys I have uncovered are from Dublin. Our Timothy's father was David Slattery b.1800-1810 d. 1855 and it is reported his father was James Slattery and his mother was Johanna O'Donnell. We are gathering more and more information on the Slatterys of Grundy and LaSalle co Illinois every day. Are you aware whether James T. went y his middle name. Many people did back then in this area. Well I have been a little long but let me know what you think and I will dig around a it.
