Frederick was born, 29 Dec 1876, son of Stephen H. Sleight, b. 2 Jul 1839, Straatsburg, NY, and Susan O. Cleveland, b. 2 Aug 1850, daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth (Harris) Cleveland.Children of Stephen & Susan Sleight: Frederick S. (Froid, MT); John Henry (Tappan, ND); Carrie Eugene (Mrs. O.M. Wismer, Detroit, MI); May Elizabeth (Mrs. P.M. Harding, Ann Arbor, MI).
Frederick S. was 7 years old when his parents moved to Ellendale, ND, where he lived to age 16.In 1902, he graduated with a B.S. degree in Agriculture from the Agricultural College at Fargo. For two years he worked for the Agricultural Department, then took up farming in Kidder County, ND, operating a grain and stock farm along scientific lines. In 1908, he became a merchant at Tower City, ND, then became a traveling salesman for Moore Bros. at Fargo. Next he worked for the bank of New England, ND, for a year.In Mar 1913, Frederick located to Redstone, MT, and was appointed US Commissioner.He handled lands and built and operated the first garage in Redstone.In Mar 1916, he moved to Froid where he was associated with the Froid Auto and Oil Company, an electric business, and farming.
On 31 Dec 1902, Chaffee, ND, Frederick married Miss Myrtle A. Archbold, b. 27 Jun 1880, Ionia, MI, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Thursk) Archbold, natives of England.Sleight children: Stephen J., Jesse H., Caryl, Elizabeth May, Frederick A., Beryl Idabel.
