Re: Slocum-Ward marriage 1931 Pasadena CA
This a response added to my sister Pat's message. My mother was Sarah Howard Slocum (the Howard name changed later to Helen because she prferred a more feminine middle name. I think that the choice of 'Howard' was in reference to either a relative or close friend within the Cayuga County Friends community.)Our Grandfather was Frederick Vernon Slocum. He had 2 brothers, George, and Henry.George earned his MD at Michigan and was head of the Opthamology Department there for many years. My Grandmother, Susie Jones died of what was thought to be TB.The move to California was to be in a drier climate. My grandfather had to sell the Slocum farm in Cayuga County thereby ending the history of his line in New York.
Frederick Vernon had 3 children, Giles, Sarah and John Sherman (Died at age 4).
