I am responding to an older posting, I hope that you get it.
I too am looking for information on Smelley's in Cottondale,and Tucsaloosa AL. James Smelley b abt 1851 and wife Nancy Elizabeth "Lizzie", their children;
Lillie P. married to William H.Cleary
William married possibly to Margaret
Lawrence married to Lilly
Any help that you could give me would be appreciated.
