Frederick Smiles Dryden
Hello,
I'm researching the DRYDEN families of South Africa, and I noticed that it appears Frederick Smiles Dryden, born c.1878, South Shields, Durham, England, son of Fred Dryden and Lilian SMILES was in South Africa, at least briefly.
According to Aileen Smiles in her book "Samuel Smiles and his surroundings", following the death of Fred snr., that "young Fred Dryden, a boy of seventeen, was shipped to South Africa to fend for himself".
Can anyone inform me as to what happened to young Fred? Did he stay or die in South Africa or return to England?
Thank you for your time,
Craig Sheldon
