Re: Alexander Smith - Aberdeen
Do you have dates of your Alexander's siblings births? I'm looking for the family of William Smith born in Aberdeen in 1879 give or take one year.
(Erica, I can't find your Killearnan, Ross&Cromarty in my atlas so I'm not sure if it's even close.)
William worked at the Stoneywood Works before emigrating to South Africa. He may have gone there first with the British Army - the First Lincolnshire Regiment.
We have his campaign medals from 1899 to 1902.
William married Annie Philanda Dunham/Robins in 1904 in Johannesburg and they had two sons William Alexander (Willie) and Archie. William died in a gold mining accident when Archie was a year old. Archie died at 18.
Willie (b. 1905)went to Scotland in the 1920s and visited a relative Mrs Leask at 138 Bankhead Road, Stonywood, Aberdeen.
Willie died in 1955 after a famous career in South Africa.
His son, also a William, now lives (with me!) in the Whitsundays in Australia.
Any of this ring bells?
All the best,
