Richard Smith Estate Files, Caswell NC, 1858 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/V121-W7T This record matches the 1850 census with wife Sarah (Sally) and Estes connections, daughter Susan not yet married (however there is no "Ibby" in the census)
Will and probate records beginning in 1858. Information from those records: children: son Richard Smith son Jeremiah Smith daughter Mary "Polly" married to Thomas Reid daughter Susan married to Green W Cole son William Smith daughter Ibby [or Abby?] -- not given an inheritance, but provided a home for life. No indication that he thinks she will ever marry. daughter Sarah C Estres [or Estes or Ester] who does not live in North Carolina (Sarah's children: Riley B Estres, Johnathan M Estres) granddaughter Sarah Jane Estres
another residence to Elizabeth Tate during her lifetime, who is not a daughter. Elizabeth Tate also appears to be the one who submitted the will for probate (img 46 of estate files). The children of Richard Smith disputed the will in court.
Marriage records of daughters from the will and codicil: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F8P8-GH7 Marriage of Susan Smith and Greeen W. Cole, 18 Nov 1857 Caswell NC (index) -- https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F8P4-MQF Marriage of Mary Smith and Thomas Read, 11 Oct 1841 Caswell NC (index) -- https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F8PQ-V57 Marriage of Sarah Smith and Jonathan Estes, 26 Mar 1834 Caswell NC (index) [NOTE that the first name of Sarah's husband is not known, there were many Smith families in the county, and marriage records seem a bit spotty, so this might be a different Sarah . . .]
I tried to match the census records 1810-1840, and while I found some that seem likely, I could not say certainly that these were theirs (too many Richards with records that didn't match well from year to year). Without being able to trace them in the census, it is possible that the Richard from the 1850 census is not the Richard married to Salley Anglin, but to a different Sarah. (Salley was a common nickname of Sarah) Sarah's birthdate in 1783, however, matches the best estimate I have for her birth from her father's 1800 census record (age 16-25, so born between 1775-1784).
