My interest in William Millar Smylie is a military one rather than family.I am researching the lives of 39 Broken Hill, New South Wales volunteers of the original 'H' Company, 10th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force who died and are commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission as war dead. The aim is to write a book about these men.Another of the 39 war dead was an uncle of mine and he would have known William. Both men were killed in action at Gallipoli on the 25th April 1915.

I have some information on William from his AIF service dossier but I am looking for some specific details such as his date and place of birth (address etc) his mother's maiden name and any other details about his life in N/Ireland before he left for Australia. His date of departure/ship name etc would also be of value plus any information about his life in Australia leading up to his enlistment in the AIF when he was living in Broken Hill where he worked as a mechanic.

I hope you can be of assistance and I would be prepared to pass on to you the details of William's life as I know it so far.

I must add that recieving your email was a pleasant surprise as it has been quite a while since I posted my message.I look forward to hearing from you again
Regards
Brian
