Samuel & Jane (Dudley) Sneed are the progenitors of the Sneeds found in Granville and Person Cos., NC.After the Civil War many of these families moved out of these counties. Some were involved in the early settlement of Boonsboro, Kentucky.Samuel Sneed (1723-1806) is first found in Granville Co., NC as early as 1761.His wife Jane is the daughter of Thomas Dudley originally from Caroline Co., VA; who died in Amelia Co., VA.It is likely that Samuel had is origins from one of the Virginia Sneed families.Samuel Sneed was a large land and slave owner in the early Granville region of NC.He settled in Person Co., NC around 1800 in the St. James District.Samuel had issue:Stephen (1756-1821) married Mary Williams; John (died c1808) married Susannah "Suckey"; Col. Thomas (1772-1825) married Anne "Nancy" Parker; Lemuel (died 1825) married Elizabeth Redd; Hannah married Samuel Farrar Williams; Nancey (1766-1822) married Daniel Gooch; Dudley (died c1810) married Miss Mitchell; Philip married Jemiah Ann Mitchell; Emily married William Ragland.Stephan, John, & Nancy lived in Granville.Col. Thomas and Lemuel lived in Person Co.Philip settled in Salisbury, NC.Hannah's family moved to Kentucky. Many branches of these family were active in commerce and politics in the 19th century, but left few biographical records.I have a copy of the Stephen Sneed Bible and have surveyed most of the public documents and will be glad to share.
