Your mention of Snodgrasses from LaGrande, Oregon, caught my eye.My great grandfather's brother, William Snodgrass, moved to Oregon from Ohio shortly after the Civil War and settled in what became LaGrande. He had a a son, Joseph H Snodgrass, who was 12 years old at the time of the 1880 census.Fast forward to the 1910 census, and you find a 42-year-old Joseph H Snodgrass in LaGrande with a 11-year-old son named John, listed as having been born in Oregon. That sounds suspiciously like your grandfather and father to me.
William (1843-1909) was born in Hamilton County, Ohio, the son of Joseph Snodgrass (1803-1882) and Margaret Hathorn (1809-1881).Joseph was the son of William (1771-1836) and Elizabeth (1779-1844).http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?harding::snodgrass::728.htmlhttp://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?harding::snodgrass::728.html
I have just started to look at the Oregon branch of the family and would love to share notes with you.
