My ancestor was recorded as Cyla Snook. She married Paul Garrison 12 Feb 1842 in Fountain Co., Indiana. In the 1850 Federal Census she was recorded in District 5, Barry Co., Missouri as Sili Garrison, age 42, born in Pennsylvania. In the 1860 census, she is recorded in Columbia, Randolph Co., Arkansas as Sylla Garrison, age 51, born in Pennsylvania.
In the 1830 Federal Census for Fountain Co., Indiana, there is a William Snook 2/1/0/1/0/0/0/1/0/0/0 [2 males under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 50-60] 0/1/1/0/1/1/0/0/0/0/0 [1 female 5-10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 30-40] [Note: Sylla Snook would have been abt 22 years old in 1830]
This birth information for Sylla Snook probably shows that William Snook may have been in Pennsylvania in abt 1808/9, if he is her father.
I also found references to my Paul Garrison and Sylla Snook, and to William Snook in the following book: “History of Fountain Countytogether with Historic Notes on the Wabash Valley,” by H. W. Beckwith, pub. Chicago, 1881 “William SNOOK and Joshua BLAND, from Ohio, had their homes on Sec. 16;” “James GARRISON and Ewlet came early also, and made homes near and north of Elijah Clore’s.” “ “The earliest recorded marriages in Jackson township were PAUL GARRISONto CYBA SNOOK, March 7, 1831;” ““William SNOOKS had the first blacksmith shop here, and the first in the township.” [Jacksonville]
I have also read posts on this forum that this particular William Snook married a Margaret Meyer/Myer “near Barton, Allegany Co., Maryland, on Aug. 31, 1802.” It may be worth mentioning that Paul Garrison and Sylla Snook named their youngest daughter Margaret, and one of their sons William Mitchel Garrison.
Does anyone have any other information on this family of William Snook?
