Sowell's from Bertie County NC linked to TX

Does anyone have information about the Sowell's from Bertie County, NC coming to Texas and if they were involved in the Republic or the Alamo.I'm trying to see if I can become Daughters of the Republic.I've seen a lot of websites about Sowell but have not been able to make this link.I live in Austin, Texas now.
