Paul new information: Hi Jeff. Here's an update on John G. Spahr.I wrote to the Van Wert County clerk to try to get a copy of John's death certificate.I got a reply yesterday.Seems there is no record of John's death in Van Wert County. However, she sent me a copy of the grave registration for John in the cemetery at Wren, Ohio.It says,"SPAHR, John G.(1 Oct 1818 PA) - 1 Jan 1888 68y 2m 20d (GAR Pvt Co G 20 Reg OVI)".She also sent an Application for Letters of Administration for John's estate, since he died without a will. It confirms that Phebe was his widow and listed 9 children with their place of residence. They were:Margaret A. Baxter ofPaiway (handwriting is very difficult to read).I can find no such place in Ohio, Indiana, or Michigan. Sarah A. Traup of Van Wert Ohio, Daniel Spahr of Wren, Jacob Spahr of Wren, Geo. W. Spahr of Wren, Joseph Spahr of Wren, Eliza J. Mauley(?) of Decatur (IN), Samantha Beiler (?) of Decatur (IN), and Davis Spahr of Wren. This confirms that Paul Spahr'sGeorge Washington Spahr and our Joseph Spahr were indeed brothers. My guess is that John died in Decatur, IN and his death is registered there.I will write for a certificate there. If that doesn't pan out, I'm at a loss. Then I will write to Butler Co. PA, and Cumberland Co. PA to see if I can find a birth record.By the way, three graves down from John's are two graves registered as SPAHR, Lewis A. d 14 July 18881y 5d s/o J.H. & M.A.; and SPAHR, Louvella M. d 30 Aug 1881 1y 2m 27d d/o J.H. & M.A. Presumably these are children of Joseph H. and Mary Malin. Will you pass this note along to Paul; I seem to have misplaced his e-mail address.
