Thank you so much for the wonderful information Tim! I wish I was as organised as you at putting stuff onto the computer! It's great to have a completely new branch sprouting!! Ive printed out all the info and will make sure I carefully get it onto the tree in due course. Just as a matter of interest, we have had other Spatchers living in and around NY. Francis Spatcher was one of my first American contacts; he lived in Lakehurst, New Jersey until his death in 2000. His sister Rosalie Spatcher was one of the Rockettes/Corps de Ballet, dancing at Radio City Music Hall. His brother Richard migrated to California where he lived with his family until his death last year.Jesse, father of this trio, migrated with his wife Rose around 1900. (Jesse was my Grandfathers brother.) We also have another couple of brothers who we know lived in NY, one called Frank who was fond of the liquor we're told, but very talented on the honky tonk piano! Someone else has mentioned an infamous character called 'Blackjack Spatcher' who was meant to frequent the docks area in the very early days of the city!! We were lucky enough to visit New York briefly in 2000 when we came over for the Spatcher Gathering in New Jersey. I'm afraid Padbury is nowhere near Durham; well not in English terms anyway! It's probably about a 10 hour drive on congested roads away. Padbury is a sleepy village in the heart of England in the county of Buckinghamshire; look on the map a little to the left above London and you should find Aylesbury; keep going up slowly and you'll find Buckingham. Padbury is 2 miles to the north and probably not on the map!! It's a very ancient village, the church was originally built in Norman times (1100 years ago) and has a chequered history. Spatchers have lived in the village for over 300 years, and before that, a village to the North called Stowe.(They were actually thrown out of Stowe when the land owner decided that he wanted to create a garden round his house and the village was in the way!!) A lot of the houses are the cute timber framed ones you see on chocolate boxes! Anyway that's enough for now!! I will get further data in order for you and send it asap. You cancontact me direct at Yearsley@Westering66.freeserve.co.ukif it's easier. Regards, Mary P.S Your two youngest boys are about the same age as my girls; Marie-Claire, born 1986 and Katy, born 1989! My husband Peter is also a teacher; neither of the girls are interested in going into teaching!!
