Thank you for your response - appreciate the information very much.Realizing that various sources may or may not be accurate, I did find in "Cemetery Records of Marion Co., Iowa", page 125 of the Rees Cemetery, that George Speed (who married Mary Mercy Robinet) died 4 Sep 1874 at the age of 81y 5m 28d, which calculates to a birthdate 7 Mar 1793.

Really strange that George W. and Mahala waited so long to marry !I did have their marriage date from"Marion County Iowa Marriages 1845 through 1899", pg 115; however, I thought it must be a mistake since the census records had them together long before that!
