Confusion on John Spencer and Mary Fry, RI, 1700's
John Spencer (6-10-1693 in East Greenwich, RI to 6-1774 in East Greenwich, RI) and Mary Fry (6-24-1693 in E. Greenwich, Kent Co., RI to 6-30-1732 in E. Greenwich, Kent Co., RI) Married: September 13, 1716 in East Greenwich, RI
Children: Thomas (7-17-1717), Welthian (2-16-1719), Audrey (12-1-1720), John (11-10-1722), Rufus (8-21-1724), Joseph (c.1726), Charles (1-1-1728), Susannah (9-10-1729), Mercy (3-14-1731)
Okay, Joseph Spencer married Susannah Vaughn on May 18, 1746 in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
I read their children are: Charles (6-3-1749), Mary (4-5-1751), Thomas (1-20-1754), David (6-10-1756), Rufus (1-15-1758), Welthian (1-9-1760), Joseph (7-6-1762)
Rufus Spencer b. 1758 died in Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY in 1837. He left a will and I heard the will mentions a son named Gardner who is my 4th great grandfather.
Was Joseph Spencer the son of John Spencer and Mary Fry or some other family? Not all Rootweb pages mention John Spencer and Mary Fry having a son named Joseph. That is where the confusion is. I am going to purchase a copy of Rufus Spencer's will (d. 1837). Is there any sources which confirms that my Spencer family indeed traces back to John Spencer and Mary Fry. The Spencer family apparently goes back to Michael Spencer (b. 1611 in Stotfold, England d. 1683 in East Greenwich, RI). Thank you in advance for any help you can give me ;) .
