My great-great grandfather, Seymour Mills Spencer, was born in Hartford CT on March 27th 1812 and died in Maketu, on the Bay of Plenty coast in New Zealand, in 1898. He and his wife Ellen Stanley Thompson came over to New Zealand in 1842 as missionaries to the Maoris, and worked in the area inland of the Bay of Plenty between about 1846-70.
Seymour had six surviving children, five of whom married and produced families. Two were daughters' families (Benton and Purvis) who are based presently in the United States, the other three are male descent-lines who are based in New Zealand. We had a family reunion at Easter of 1988 that was attended by several hundred relatives from all five branches. However, that was over 20 years ago, and I have no further information on the subsequent generations of the American side of the family. I do have further information on my own branch, though--if there's anyone out there who wants the file, get in touch with me at email@example.com.
