Co., New York, 1911, "The Sprankle (Spengler, Spangler, Sprenckel) family of Pennsylvania trace their ancestry back to George Spangler or Spengler, who was cup-bearer to the Emperor Barbarosa (1150 A.D.)...""The family coat of arms consists of a red shield emblazoned with a silver beaker resting on three golden hills, and surrounded by a Bishop's Bust."
