Re: Stackpole Family by Everett S. Stackpole
Charles R. Stackpole:
My wife and I would certainly like to purchase the book on the Stackpoles when you have it printed. My wife's family, spelled Stackpoole, immigrated to the US from the province of Quebec about 1890.We think that Stackpoole and Stackpole are one and the same name. Some of her earlier ancestors are also identified as Stackpole.
My wife's great-grandfather, Michael Stackpo(o)le married Hannah Graham 28 Feb 1865 in Notre Dame Cathedral in Granby, Shefford County Quebec.
Michael's parents were Patrick Stackpole and Mary Boyle who were born in Ireland. At some point Patrick Stackpole apparently moved to Boston, but most of his children, James, Theresa Florence, John, Jennie,Cary, and Nellie moved to the Chicago area.
Your mention of the village of Stackpole in Wales as being on the site of land granted to the Stackpole who was with William the Conqueror was very interesting. We lived in England for a number of years and travelled to Wales a number of times, including passing through Stackpole a few times. We thought that the village was somehow connected to the Stackpo(o)le family.Thank you for confirming that.
