Mary Stafford, NC
Help! I have reached an impasse in my attempts to trace my Rose
family heritage. I know from a variety of sources that my 4XGr.
Grandfather, John Rose, married a Mary Stafford somewhere around
1800. They left records in Burke County, NC, but at some point
settled in Sullivan County, NC -- which is now actually Sullivan
County, TN. John and Mary had at least four children, Elias, Sam,
Wilson (from whom I'm descended), and Rebecca, all of whom settled
eventually in what was then Wise County, VA. And that's about all
I know. From Wilson on down the records are pretty good, but John?
A total mystery. So, I thought I'd try coming at this thing from a
different direction. If any of you Staffords could help me with
information on a Mary Stafford, probably born no earlier than
1780, who lived in NC and married a John (possibly "Jr.") Rose
near the turn of the century I would be greatly beholden. Even
Christine Rose, Director of the National Rose Family Assoc. and a
noted geneologist and author of numerous books on the subject, has
been stumped by this one. In fact it was her suggestion that I
try looking to the Stafford side for help.
