As for the confusion over Victoria DISTRICT.... prior to 1850ish, Hastings County was in the Midland District.Canada West was divided into Districts.Around 1850, Midland District was divided in two with the eastern portion being named the Victoria District. Victoria District's borders closely resemble those of Hastings County and included Belleville.I was not referring to Victoria TOWNSHIP.I would be appreciative of any information you may have on Thomas' wife.As I said in the earlier posting, I suspect that your Betsy is a SAMPLE/ SEMPLE and that her mother or paternal grandmother was a Margaret (Latta) SAMPLE. Margaret was born about 1778 in the US and was the oldest daughter of a William LATTA of Albany, NY.Her brother John was the founder of Latta Mill in Thurlow Township just north of Belleville on the Moira River.Feel free to email me at [email protected]
