In the Name of God Amen I Dougals Starke at present of Fairfield District in the State aforesaid being about to leave this State for a time and knowing the accidents to which men are always liable in their profrefs through life have thought proper to make this my last Will &C Testament- In the first place I direct that all my debts be paid out of my personal property and the residue after the payment of my debts I give and bequeath in the following manner;
In the first place I give and bequeath unto my loving Son Turner Starke his heirs and assign forever the lands on which he now lives or plants composed of the lands subject to the claims of the son of Israel Teague and my part of the track surveyed in the joint names of myself and Peter Cassety & I also give and bequeath unto the said Turner Starke his heirs and assigns forever the following Negroes towit Jeffry amos Jane Jacob Linda, Thamar, and her child Henry & Elsey
2aly . I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Lucy Starke to be at her absolute desposal the following negroes John Davy and Philander and also the following other negroes to remain in her possession during her life time or Widowhood towit Lucy Mekala & Malvina-
3dly . All the rest of my property both real and personal I desire to be kept together for the use of my children by the said Lucy Starke until they respectively become of age, and as soon as each child Shall become of age his or her share of the personal property shall be allotted off & left to his or her absolute will & disposal also all my lands as soon the eldest of my children shall become of age except the lands in Fairfield destrict Shall be divided into equal Shares according to the number of the said children their living and the eldest then to have his or her Share and the Shares of the others [“to be given to” typed between lines]-----

them as they respectively become of age to the use and benefit of them their heirs, and afsigns forever or to be sold and the proceeds or purchase money of the said lands to be equally divided among my said children by the said Lucy for their use and benefit the eldest to have his or her Share “as-s-on” appears to be crossed out] and the residue to be appropriated as hereafter directed.
4thly. My lands in Fairfield I intend for the use of my Said Wife and children when I wish them all to live together until the Said children become respectively of age or Marry and afterwards if my said Wife should live that long for her use and benefit during her lifetime or Widowhood and after her death or marriage to be divided among the said Children by my said Wife in the Same Manner with my other lands
5thly. It is my intention that my said younger children shall not have it in their power to choose guardians nor leave the State unlefs the testamentary guardians hereby appointed for them should see proper to permit them and I hereby appoint for should see proper to permit them and I hereby appoint William Ellison and James Chesnut guardians of all my children that may [“not” typed between lines] be of age at the time of my death.
6thly. I desire that such part of my stock of Cattle & horses & household furniture as may be necessary for the use of my family Should not be sold but applied to the use of the family and such part as may be deemed unnecessary by my executors [“to be sold” typed between lines] and the proceeds to be made use of for the use and benefit of my said younger Children—And I direct that the proceeds or annual revenue of the Whole of the property intended for them should be disposed to their benefit by my executor in Such manner they or the guardians of the said Children Shall think proper as long as my said executors shall think proper to undertake the management of the proceeds or revenue of the same. Lastly I hereby appoint my son Turner Stake and my friends Lackanah Canty & Stack Hunter Executors of this my last Will and Testament Witnefs my hand and Seal the[space] day of July in the
