Jessie Leona Starkjs was born on October 28,1909 in Russell, Alabama to Florence and Jesse Perkins. She passed peacfully in her sleep on July 18,2010 at Alameda Care Center where she made her home for the past six years. She married Arnold Gadson Perkins in 1939 and made their first home in Miami, Florida where their son Arnold Xavier Cornelius Perkins was born in 1941. In 1954, the Perkins family moved to the Bay Area, Jessie lost her husband in 1971 and she continued her activities with the Market Street SDA Church and travelded extensively throughout the world on cruised and tours. Her hobbies included traveling, cooking, collecting cards from people she kept in touch with throughout the years. Jessie was blessed to meet Pastor Marion Cato in the early 1980's, they married in 1987 and made their home in Atalana, Georgia. They enjoyed many years in Atlanta but after Pastor Cato's passing, Jessie returned to Oakland, California to be closer to her son. Mrs. Perkins-Cato is survived by her son; Arnold Perkins (Karen), Grandsons; Kevin Gieg; Anthonye Perkins (Pam), Miles Perkins (Tricia), Daryl Perkinis; Great Grandchildren, Susan Gieg, Terence Gieg, Ruby Perkins, Kakai perkins; numerous nieces and nephews, grnad nieces and nephews, and countless church family members. A private internment will be held on Friday, July 23,2010. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 25th at 11am, Market Street Seventh Day Adventist Church, 900 34th street, Oakland, Ca. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Centers for Elders Independence, 510 17th Street, Oakland, Ca 94612.
