Hi Debbie,
Lucy and Josephus were my ggg grandparents. Their only child, was Carrie Elizabeth Ivey (Bettie).
From what I understand, it has been family history that has Lucy being killed by the union soldiers, by being hung over the Mississippi River. Her baby was left in the woods, and found and raised by another Ivey Family. It appears that Josephus was perhaps fighting the war, and not there when this happened.
After Josephus returned, he did marry again, and had two sons
This story was told to Ron Thompson, who is also a ggg grand child of Lucy, but a different branch than I am. Bettie lived with his Great Grandmother after James died, and was lucky to have the stories past to him.
Bettie married James McQuirter and they had a total of 10 children, but only 8 were still living by 1920
Lula is Ron's branch
Robert
Francis
Lon is My Branch
Henry
Alice
Dora Mae
Carrie Ruth
How do you fit in? Through the McQuirter side, the Ivey side, or the Steinwinder side?
I have bits and pieces on all the branches, with obits and Civil War Records, and some Funeral home records. I'd love to share. My email is [email protected]
